Mixed-media installation | Charcoal, newspapers, rope, latex and kraft paper, 2024

Exhibited at Centro Cultural de Barco de Ávila, Spain.

Echo of Rubble (Eco de escombros) confronts the destruction of Gaza and the political, military and media structures that sustain it.

The installation transforms the exhibition space into a landscape of ruins, combining fragmented materials with portraits of Palestinian journalists, medical professionals and civilians. Among those represented are Plestia Alaqad, Bisan Owda, Wael Al-Dahdouh and Dr Adnan Al-Bursh, whose stories embody resistance, testimony and the human cost of Israeli violence.

Visitors are physically separated from the installation, a deliberate barrier that questions the distance between Western spectatorship and political responsibility. The work challenges the illusion of neutrality in a context where European governments remain implicated through arms exports and political support.

Conceived as an unfinished installation, Echo of Rubble continues to reflect an ongoing catastrophe. Its incompleteness is intentional: as lives are lost, new absences emerge, resisting any attempt to present the violence as a closed chapter.
