El cuerpo en movimiento (The Body in Movement)

An Artistic and Critical Workshop on Embodied Awareness

The Body in Movement is an artistic and performative workshop developed within the framework of the project Trazando Cuerpos, promoted by the University of Salamanca (USAL) and supported by its Social Affairs Service.

Held in the historic Cloister Hall of the Escuelas Mayores in Salamanca, the workshop proposed a critical and creative exploration of (self)perception through the body. It was conceived as a space for embodied research, where movement became both method and language.

Through a series of artistic dynamics focused on movement, voice, theatre-based encounter, and performance practices, participants were invited to identify their own physical, emotional, and social needs. The work emphasized corporeal expression as a tool for developing critical awareness of the body — not only as an individual experience, but as a site shaped by social expectations, fears, and structural forms of violence.

The collective process culminated in the creation of a performative piece centered on the body, self-perception, and the perception of others and shared spaces. Reflection, dialogue, and group exchange were essential components of the workshop, fostering both individual insight and collective connection.

As part of Trazando Cuerpos, the project aimed to create public spaces for discussion around gender-based and intersectional forms of bodily violence affecting women and marginalized bodies — including discrimination based on gender, race, sexuality, gender identity, disability, or age. Alongside workshops, the broader program included roundtables, film screenings, and a photographic exhibition, reinforcing the body as a space of creativity, resistance, and social participation.
